Learn Guitar Chords

The easiest three chords to start off with when you’re learning guitar are A, D and E.

They were the first 3 chords I learned and within a week I was playing along to Bob Dylan and The Stones – and you can do the same.

A,D and E are the 3 main chords in the key of A.

  • They can be learned quickly
  • They are great for building the strength in your fingers
  • The chord changes aren’t that difficult

Best of all, once you get them sorted you can play 1000’s of your favorite songs.

The A Major Guitar Chord

A Major Guitar Chord

The A chord will feel like a bit of a squeeze when you first play it. It can be difficult to make your fingers fit between the 2 frets. Don’t worry this gets a lot easier with practice, and it will help you build your finger strength. When you’re playing A your thumb should be somewhere halfway up the back of the neck. Once you have your fingers in the right place play each of the strings slowly, one at a time. Make sure there are no buzzing or muted sounds.

Once you get that clean crisp ringing sound you’ve just mastered your first chord – The A major guitar chord

1000′s of songs can be played with just 3 chords. The 2 chords that normally go well with A are D and E. The chord diagrams and pics are shown below.

For each of the chords put your fingers on the string as shown. Just like you did with the A chord, play the strings one at a time and make sure you can hear no buzzing or muted strings.

If You’re Getting Buzzing Sounds There Could Be a Few Reasons:

  • You are not pressing down on the strings hard enough
  • You’re nails might be too long. One of your fingers is accidentally touching the string below it – try to make your fingers stand out straighter from the fret board
  • Your finger is not close enough to the fret – the further your finger is from the metal strip the harder it will be to avoid the buzzing –with some chords it’ll be tough to get your finger really close but try keep it as close as you can.
