Learning guitar barre chords is an essential step along the road to mastering guitar.
Up until now each of your fingers needed to hold down just one string at a time. A barre chord is a chord where one or more of your fingers will hold down more than one string. At first this will be difficult, but with practice it will get easier and easier.
The reason barre chords are used is because they allow you to create movable chord shapes – chords that can be played anywhere on the guitar neck because they have no open strings. Let’s look at some of the more common barre chord shapes more closely so you can fully understand how powerful they are.
